Frequently Asked Questions about SureCycle
Here are some frequently asked questions about our SureCycle services. If you have a question that is not answered below, contact us and we will send you the information you need.
1. Is there a charge for your computer recycling service?
Yes. For a $15 fee per computer, SureCycle will disassemble your computer; destroy the hard drive; dispose of the monitor, keyboard, speakers, wiring and frame; and provide you with an official document of destruction.
2. Why do you charge a fee when other organizations do it for free?
SureCycle works with other electronics recyclers that charge fees for handling computer parts, especially monitors which have a cathode ray tube (CRT). CRTs contain lead, so SureCycle pays for safe disposal of monitors. Additionally, disassembling the computers and sanitizing the hard drives provides work on a daily basis for the individuals in our program. SureCycle sells all components, except the hard drive which is destroyed, back to a recycler who reuses and refurbishes parts.
Payment is required at the time of drop-off, unless credit terms have been pre-arranged. For government agencies, purchase orders are acceptable.
3. Will you pick up obsolete computers up at my business?
Yes, we will pick up computers. We prefer to have them palletized and shrink wrapped, since this safeguards the confidential information remaining on your computer and allows SureCycle to inventory the number of computers picked up. And, since we invoice for each computer, accuracy is important.
4. Can I drop off my computers?
Yes, you can. SureCycle is located inside the Lester Higgins Adult Center at 3041 Cleveland Avenue South in Canton behind the Southgate Shopping Center. Our collection hours are weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.
5. If I take the hard drive out, is the cost less?
No, because we still have to disassemble the computer and make sure the hard drive was removed. Plus, we still have to break down the machine to properly recycle the parts.
6. How do I know my hard drive was destroyed?
Each hard drive has a serial number. When the machine is disassembled, SureCycle records that number prior to degaussing and destroying the unit. Those serial numbers are matched to the sanitized units prior to shipping them to a recycler, thus assuring each hard drive was destroyed. Upon completion, we will mail you a document of destruction and a serial number tracking sheet for your records.
